About the PHO - Who We Are
Mitchell County Memorial Hospital celebrated its grand opening as a county hospital on October 28, 1951. The hospital included 33 beds, an obstetrics department, business office, laboratory, operating room, kitchen, dining room and additional service departments.

Today Mitchell County Regional Health Center is a Critical Access Hospital with twenty-five beds. Over the years, many changes have taken place, from changes to the physical plant in Osage to the formation of a Physician Hospital Organization (PHO). This partnership includes Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa, Mitchell County Memorial Hospital and clinics in Osage, Riceville, St. Ansgar and Stacyville.

Our desire to provide uniquely personal care to our patients, family and /or caregivers in an environment nurturing the mind, body and spirit, led Mitchell County Regional Health Center to become a Planetree affiliate. Planetree is a non-profit membership organization working with hospitals and health centers to develop and implement patient-centered care in healing environments. There are an estimated 100 Planetree organizations in the world, and Mitchell County Regional Health Center has been an affiliate member since April 2004.
