MRI

What is MRI?

An MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is a system that uses a magnetic field, radio waves and a computer to create clear images of structures inside the body. MRI is most often used to image the brain, spine, chest, vascular system and musculoskeletal system, including the knee and shoulder.

This procedure will take 40-60 minutes.

Preparation for procedure:

There is no special preparation for this exam. You will have to lie flat for what may seem like a long period of time during the exam. You will be asked to fill out an MRI screening form before your exam. Please tell your physician or technologist of any implanted devices such as a cardiac pacemaker, a cerebral aneurysm clip, a neurostimulator, a hearing aid, or any metal shrapnel/fragments in your body or eyes. Please tell your doctor if you suffer from claustrophobia (fear of tight or closed spaces) prior to exam.
