History of Nursing

Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow:
Nursing at Mitchell County Regional Health Center

When Mitchell County Regional Health Center, originally named Mitchell County Memorial Hospital, opened its doors on November 1, 1951, there were six registered nurses. Gladys Dietrich was the new director of nursing. Now, our nursing staff includes over 40 members.

Nursing care has evolved over the years and today we are a Critical Access Hospital with 25 beds. We offer Med/Surg (including pediatric and hospice care), OB, Skilled and Operating room nursing. The nursing department has recently undergone a redesign to include newly formed shared nursing governance. This philosophy of professional practice offers each nurse the opportunity to participate in the decisions that contribute to quality of nursing at Mitchell County Regional Health Center. Shared governance is how we individually practice our profession, make decisions, support the growth and development of others and take care of ourselves.

The nurses at Mitchell County Regional Health Center have the respect, skills, and ability to embody the healing spirit of Planetree by providing care for the sick and dying, the young and old, and, our friends and family at a place where reverence, integrity, compassion and excellence are the guiding forces behind each action.
