Mitchell County Regional Health Center Receives Coveted IBON Continuing Education Provider Accreditation
More than 2.5 million people work as nurses in the United States, making it the country's largest health care occupation. And because of the challenge to keep on top of the latest new information and practices constantly being developed in the medical field, continuing education is a vital part of any nursing career.
Mitchell County Regional Health Center’s (MCRHC) Chief Nursing Officer, Christy Syndergaard stated, “Continuing education (CE) is a requirement by the Iowa Board of Nursing to maintain nursing licensure. However, obtaining CE can be a time consuming and expensive process for those professionals and takes time away from their patients, family, and community obligations.
MCRHC underwent a lengthy Iowa Board of Nursing Continuing Education Providership application process that included submitting organizational information, event materials, and policies agreeing to adhere to the stringent Iowa Board of Nursing Continuing Education Providership criteria. MCRHC strongly believes that learning is a life long process and continuing education is an integral part of professional development of each and every nurse at MCRHC.
It is our goal to provide our MCRHC’s nursing staff with the convenience of obtaining high-quality continuing education programs right here at home and without out-of-pocket expenses.”
Mitchell County Regional Health Center received the prestigious Iowa Board of Nursing Continuing Education Provider Accreditation on February 19, 2010. The overall benefits of this accreditation:
- Indicates MCRHC's willingness to have their educational programs reviewed for adherence to objective state and national best-practice standards.
- Respect for achieving a high standard of excellence.
- Provides an avenue through which nurses can maintain professional competence.
- Promotes commitment to high quality nursing practice.
- Reduce overhead costs for the organization (travel expense, non-productive work expense, registration fees).
MCRHC is one of only three hospitals in the Mercy Health Network – North Iowa to receive this accreditation.
