Local Agencies Partner To Provide Free Wellness Screenings
Five Mitchell County groups have partnered to provide free and low-cost wellness screens to area residents through a program called “Wellness coming to you”. The screenings will be held one day each month and will rotate to locations throughout the county.
Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Cedar River Complex, Stacyville Community Nursing Home, Riceville Family Care and Therapy Center and St. Ansgar Rescue are working together to make wellness screens more accessible to Mitchell County. Free screenings will include heel scans for osteoporosis, fasting glucose screens for diabetes/pre-diabetes and blood pressure checks. Other wellness labs will be available for a reduced fee, including liver, diabetes monitoring, kidney, potassium, thyroid, heart health and anemia.
Results for a few of the screens will be available immediately. The rest of the results will be mailed to the participant the next day. If someone receives an abnormal result, referrals can be made to local agencies such as Mitchell County Home/Public Health for blood pressure monitoring and Mitchell County Regional Health Center for free pre-diabetes classes for the whole family.
All of the screening clinics will run from 7:00 to 10:00 a.m. Screenings will be done on a first-come, first-serve basis so appointments are not necessary. The first screening will take place in Osage at the CRC Events Center at the Mitchell County Fairgrounds on Friday, September 4. Future screenings will be held at the MCRHC – Riceville and Stacyville Clinics and the St. Ansgar Rescue Meeting Room.
